GRIT levels remain critically low after another day of severe weather.

Flintshire, which had a 700-tonne delivery of grit on Tuesday after reporting low levels, yesterday made a fresh appeal for drivers to stay off the roads.

A Flintshire spokesman said: “The gritting teams and our snowploughs are all out dealing with the snow and ice but the volume of traffic is hampering the operation.”

Gwynedd Council, which received an extra 200 tonnes on Tuesday, said it was limiting the use of rocksalt to the treatment of main highways only as their supplies dwindle.
